When I first saw this small piece I saw a black rectangular shape. I copied it into Photoshop and changed its levels, and revealed some nice details.

Perhaps by making it lighter, its details would be exposed to more of its viewers.

I agree with Alex. You're on the right track, next time make it a little lighter (not so much black). Keep up the good work!

Image -> Mode -> Adjust Levels
