Turin Brakes

Author's Comment

The Turin Brakes, who are pretty cool, stream a video called 'The Door' on their website. The singer's expression caught my eye so I paused it, sketched it (I love my Wacom tablet to tiny little bits), and then worked on it in painter.

It looks nothing like him, and has anatomical errors aplenty. All the features are accurate, they're just... not necessarily in the right place ;) oops. But it was really a 30 second sketch, so I don't really mind. I thought I'd work on it some more in Painter using the Artist's Oils tool, to learn how it moves the paint around (it's really unlike anything else, and so much fun). So I limited myself to one shade of paint on one layer. As only the third document I ever opened in Painter I'm quite proud of it, despite the obvious mistakes.

Painter IX, May 2005, about an hour, maybe two
