Portrait of my Parents

Author's Comment

This is an image I created of my parents, it is around 4' x 5'.
It is a mixed media piece, using photography and oil paint.
I chose a sheet of galvanized metal as the substrate for the stylized peace rose in the middle, which I painted in oils to symbolize a marriage that lasted over 50 years.
I use photographs of them roughly the same age around five years, the black background symbolizes the outside world to me, I added a lace"ish" fabric pattern to represent the fabric of life.

...about the photos I always loved them when I was young, they show so much of my parents personalities. My Mom going straight at you on a her tricycle, with the old southern farm house in the back, so salient to her development. And my Dad, lay back with his dog, under a mighty tree, to me represents his passive strength.

Anyway I took the small photos and made them into 25 fragmented 5 x 7s and put them back together to recreate the images.

At the time these were taken they may have lived 30 miles apart, both unaware of each-other, and what their next 70 years would be.
