I think splash pages are only decent in the cases of making sure people have a certain player/browser such as choosing between IE users or FF users, or asking if you have Flash player 8, etc.. but, I do like splash pages, if they are conveyed in the right image. I wonder if there is a way to use ajax to make a splash page so it won't have to reload the main page.

Just a fullscreen layer over the index, with anything you want on it! And then, when user clicks, the layer closes, and vouala! the index
